Chapel

Considering both originality and artistic-historic value, the inside wall paintings of the chapel are the most precious of entire chapel complex. The chapel was painted in the spirit of late-baroque illusionism. The author of frescos that are dating back to 1750 – 1752 is Anton Schmidt, an Austrian artist who lived in mining towns of central Slovakia in the baroque time. On the vaults of the chapel, there are gorgeous pictures from both Old and New Testaments, allegory of Church, choir of Angels – musicians, figures of church fathers and four evangelists with their attributes. Grisaille pictures of Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Francis Xavier can be seen down on side walls.

The chapel is consecrated to Assumption of Virgin Mary. When restoring the chapel in the course of years 2002 – 2005, one of the old techniques – cleaning with white breadcrumb – was used. During this restoration, a unique discovery was made in the entrance to sacristy.
